What affects the price
- The engine. Some engines need the sump removed or more parts dismantled to reach the belt, which takes longer.
- What else is driven by a belt in oil. Engines with a separate oil pump belt need that replaced too.
- How much debris is in the oil. An engine where the belt has started breaking down needs more cleaning to get every fragment out.
- The parts. We use genuine or OE-equivalent belt kits and the oil specification your manufacturer requires.
What is included in every price
- New wet belt kit with tensioner and guides
- Oil pump drive belt replaced where fitted
- Oil pickup strainer removed and cleaned
- Sump cleaned of rubber debris
- Correct-specification oil and new filter
- New seals, gaskets and stretch bolts
- Timing verified and diagnostic scan
- Photo evidence and written service record
Why the cheapest quote is rarely the cheapest job
A wet belt change done properly is far more than swapping a belt. If a quote only covers the belt and reuses the old tensioner, or puts the new belt back into an engine still full of old rubber and old oil, it is not the same job. The debris goes straight back into the oil pickup and the new belt is working in contaminated oil from day one.
When you compare quotes, ask what is included. Is the sump removed and cleaned? Is the oil pickup strainer cleaned? Is the tensioner new? Is the oil to the right specification? If the answer to any of those is no, the price difference is your engine’s risk.
The cost of leaving it
A failed wet belt usually means a replacement engine, typically £3,000 to £5,000 or more, before you add recovery and time off the road. Against that, a planned belt change is the cheapest insurance your engine will ever get.
