About the VW Group 2.0 TDI wet oil pump belt
On the 2.0 TDI EA288, the main cambelt sits outside the engine as usual, but the oil pump is driven by a separate belt that runs inside the sump, in the oil. If that belt fails, the engine loses oil pressure.
It is easy to overlook because it is not the belt most people think of when they hear “cambelt”. We check its condition and replace it where the condition or history calls for it.
Common problems
- Oil pump belt wear causing low oil pressure
- Belt overlooked during cambelt services
Replacement interval
There is no single headline interval that covers every version of this engine. We check the service schedule and history for your exact vehicle before recommending any work.
