Why the Transit is the van we see most
When Ford introduced the 2.0 EcoBlue diesel in 2016, it went into almost every new Transit and Transit Custom. That makes it one of the most common commercial engines in the UK, and it uses a timing belt that runs in oil, with the oil pump also driven by a belt inside the engine.
Transits work hard. Delivery routes, trades and hire fleets put on big miles at low speeds, with heavy loads and plenty of idling. All of that is tough on engine oil, and the condition of the oil is what decides how long a wet belt lasts.
What the interval means for a working van
Ford’s guide for the 2.0 EcoBlue is every 10 years or 144,000 miles, whichever comes first. For a van doing 25,000 to 30,000 miles a year, that mileage arrives in five or six years, long before the age limit. If your Transit is on its second owner or came out of a fleet, check the records. If there is no proof the belt has been done, plan for it.
Signs your Transit needs attention
- Oil pressure warning or a low oil message, even briefly.
- Engine management light with timing or camshaft fault codes.
- Limp mode or a sudden loss of power under load.
- Black specks in the oil on the dipstick or at an oil change.
- Rattle on a cold start that settles after a few seconds.
Is there a Transit wet belt recall?
Not for the belt itself, as things stand. Recalls are issued for safety defects, and Ford’s position is that the wet belt is a service item with a published interval. In practice that means protecting the engine is down to you, not the manufacturer.
- Check your registration on the official GOV.UK vehicle recall checker, as Transits are recalled for other faults from time to time.
- Find any record of a previous belt change, with the date and mileage.
- No record and past the interval? Treat the belt as due now.
How we handle your Transit
- Send us the registration and mileage. We confirm the engine and give you a fixed price.
- We book a date that works around your jobs. Collection may be available, just ask.
- We replace the belt kit and oil pump belt, clean the sump and oil strainer, and refill with the correct oil.
- Your van is tested and back with you in around 2 working days, with photos of the old belt and a 12-month warranty.
